is there any difference between vehicle specific bov's and universal bov's?

IIRC there aren't any vehicle specific BOV except for like DSM ones. BOV's are only flange specific. So like you can't put a greddy bov on a hot pipe that has an RFL flange welded on it or a SARD r2d2 on greddy flange.

oh ok. i only ask cuz hks has universal and vehicle specific bov's

well if you get the universal one just as long as you pair it with the right flange you should be good to go. If your going with the front mount I doubt your going to be able to use the vehicle specific as I think those run in the stock location and that idea gets tossed out the window when you run a fmic.

u can use stock BOV on diffrent cars but it depends and u have to do custom things for it , other than that there all universal , but u cant have a diffrent flangs with a diffrent BOV greddy wit greddy hks wit hks

btw does any one know if a SSQV BOV is suposed to spin on a flange ive always welded them?

yeah the hks can be turned if you use thier supplied clamp...vehicle specific is usually for stock set ups like pete said...so say i left my s14 sr notchback stock and used the stock recirculator and what not it would coincide with that.

it almost sounds like there isnt a bov, hear it flutter at 1:30?

its the turbo not the bov lol you can hear it spool then hear it start slowin down while it looses boost on deceleration , theres a bov and the spring is prolly pretty tight so the sound is very minimal , you can hear it flutter because of the turbo , its not a small turbo so u will hear it spool loudly

a car with that much hp doesnt want a BOV thats guna let out that much pressure they need a strong enough bov that wont leak but it doesnt need to be open to much , they want minimal lag so they do not want it to let off to much pressure

if the bov (which is actually called pressure relief valve) doesnt let out enough pressude then you will get compressor surge. which will actually hurt throttle response even more buy the air in the intercooler and piping going back threw the turbo and spinning it the other way. then the exhaust has to spin that turbo the right way again which takes more time. so that is the bov you are hearing and i think it is the r2d2 one i forgot who makes it maybe turbo xs

i found this video on you tube and thought it was funny

i wouldnt watch that synchronic BOV to understand BOV its mainly a compare on contrast video because the makers of that synchronic one think its better then the SSQV , unfortunantly there using a knock off SSQV which is why theres so much vacuum leak, but yea you get the jist of it ,

Lol i know that i was more about the surge part

i need to retract my previous statement about the bov i thought it was an r2d2 bov but in fact it sounds like compressor surge on that car i noticed this on sat when i was messing with my car and heard it again on emilios car so if you want that sound on your car just dont run a bov but start saving for replacement turbos

not to be mr smarty pants but running no bov with an sr or stock turbo motor WILL NOT DESTROY TURBO.. now if you retarded enough to NOT put a BOV (in which releases high levels of boost when throttle plate closes) when your boosting over lets say 12psi on sr for example, or upgraded turbo, unless its ball bearing it will not take it for long... now if you have a t25/t28 running stock boost you actually lose performance when your bov shoots out into atmosphere, ie run rich, ecm thinks air volume is norm and dumps fuel as planned in turn will foul out plugs cause build up and all that black stuff on your rear bumper :) and response is also affected. so people blowing turbos up because of "dosing" or not running bov is entirely there fault. be smart about it and that guy on vid is running stock shit and thats exactly how it was made and sounds :D i love everyone muah :-*!!!

p.s. that black s14 is running recirculated bov, that sucks dick if you listen you can hear a loud scaaaaaaaa before flutter.. hes obviously boosting really high hahaha

bov not set right
